Meet Our Doctor - Lauren Zappitelli, DVM
Dr. Zappitelli grew up just outside of Chicago, where her lifelong passion for horses took root at an early age. She began riding hunters and jumpers at the age of 8, immersing herself in the equestrian world. Throughout her high school years, she gained hands-on experience by working as a groom and braider. Alongside her duties, she dedicated herself to catch-riding, training, and showing numerous horses in hunter/jumper competitions, including two Off-Track Thoroughbreds (OTTBs) that she personally owned and trained. A move to Wisconsin during high school broadened her equestrian pursuits. She explored various disciplines, including dressage and eventing, and gained invaluable experience working as a polo groom for two years, further diversifying her skills and knowledge in horse care and training. Dr. Zappitelli began her academic journey at the University of Findlay before completing her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Wisconsin in 2010. During this time, she was actively involved in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) and the Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA), which allowed her to develop her competitive edge and expand her equestrian network. She continued her studies at the University of Wisconsin, staying in Madison to pursue a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), which she completed in 2014. While in veterinary school, Dr. Zappitelli's equestrian talents earned her a spot on the US Collegiate Team, giving her the unique opportunity to represent her country in competitions held in Romania and Norway. This international experience further enriched her skills and dedication to equine medicine and sports.
